“Houston, we’ve got a problem”. Everybody is familiar with these famous words coming from the Apollo 13 mission. But what more is there to know about this city in the state of Texas?

Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States of America, home to 2.3 million inhabitants. It’s center is located 40 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and the distance to Los Angeles is the same as to New York.

Texas has been an oil state since the beginning of the energy industry and Houston is known worldwide as the energy capital of the American continents. Every company envolved in this industry is represented in Houston and many major companies have their corporate headquarters based here. So does MODEC, SOFEC’s major shareholder.

So what does Houston has to offer? Well, some say it is a rather boring city, but I don’t buy that! I think there is enough to do in too little time! The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, the Houston Rockets (NBA basketball), the Houston Texans (NFL football), some major universities, some great clubs and bars and of course the Texas backcountry! I’ll be looking forward to see cowboys, rodeo and enjoy a real Texas BBQ!

Houston is de 4e grootste stad van de VS, met zo’n 2,3 miljoen inwoners. Het centrum ligt zo’n 60 kilometer van de Golf van Mexico, en het is ongeveer even ver naar Los Angeles als naar New York. Texas is van oudsher een oliestaat en Houston is over de hele wereld bekend als de oliehoofdstad van de Amerikaanse continenten. Elk bedrijf in de energiesector is er wel vertegenwoordigd en vele bedrijven hebben er ook hun corporate headquarters, zo ook MODEC, waar SOFEC onderdeel van uitmaakt.

Wat is er dan zoal te doen in Houston? Nou, volgens kwade tongen is het een redelijk saaie stad, maar daar geloof ik niets van. Genoeg te doen in te weinig tijd: Het Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, De Houston Rockets (NBA basketball), de Houston Texans (National Football Legue), een aantal grote universiteiten, een aantal goede clubs, en natuurlijk het Texaanse achterland dat ik wil zien! Denk bij dat laatste aan cowboys, rodeo en BBQ, niet te missen natuurlijk!
